A Portland Original-- Voodoo Donuts

We have lived in Portland over a year and I have seen relatively little of the city. Gerald works downtown everyday, and knows the whole city pretty well. But Macy and I are strictly suburb girls--So, we have started a new tradition. Once a month (or every once in a while) we are going to take a "stay-cation" where we will do something touristy in our own town! This way I will get to know Portland and we will get to know the cool places to take family and friends when you visit us.

Stop 1: Voodoo Donuts
Reportedly the best donuts in Portland, or maybe the world. Definitely a Portland original. The building is pink-- very quirky, a little crude, but OH THE DONUTS! They were wild! Covered in breakfast cereal, dusted with pixey-stick type powders, topped with marshmallows, chocolate chips and anything else you can think of that might taste good on a donut.

We should have taken a picture before we dove in to our "Voodoo dozen" (13 assorted donuts) but the camera was in the car and we just couldn't wait!

The basic glazed was great, the cake donuts were even better, the crullers-- the best! We will definitely be making a return trip (we might try the 3rd street location next time).

Macy was a big fan as well.

We can't divert our attention for even a minute with this little girl! Gerald tried to tell me how to use the camera, and Macy took her chance to grab a donut for herself!

How often do you have a bright pink painted brick wall to take pictures with? We didn't get any great ones because Macy was a little freaked, but still kinda fun, eh?

A rousing success for our first Portland "Stay-cay"!
